“Funding your film” Carole Dean created the “short end” business and took it from an idea to a $50,000,000 a year industry. She is a producer of over 100 HeathStyles shows and over 30 Filmmaker shows. She created the Roy W. Dean film grants in 1992 and since then has read thousands of applications/proposals for shorts, docs and independent films. Her 5 grants award over $380,000 a year to aspiring filmmakers. Carole is the author of “The Art of Funding: Alternative Financing concepts” and now is teaching her new book, “The Art of Manifesting: Creating Your Future.”

Work directly with Carole Dean We work from both of my books, The Art of Film Funding: Alternative Financing Concepts and ok The Art of Manifesting: Creating your future. You need to come to the class with the following: 1. A 5 year plan for your life, clearly defining what you will be doing in 5 years. 2. Your purpose as a filmmaker in one strong sentence. 3. A log line for your film The class is to help you fund your film. We work on funding items needed for the foundation of the film, your pitch, your proposal, your trailer and many things in between. Why 3 weeks? Well, I decided one day seminars are like a hit-and-run. I give scores of ideas and information and then leave you to do it all alone. That's not what I want to do. I like to work with you, listen to your concept of the film and help you find your pitch and the proposal and sometimes broaden your own idea of what the film can be. Together you, the class, and I work on your project to bring it to a higher level. Funders know when you are dancing around an idea for a film and you can't get money until you can clearly see your project, know the story points, understand the heart of the film and know how to visually tell your story. This is what I want you to achieve in the 3 sessions. Besides the class, I will work with you personally from my home, on the phone or even in person. You will be able to send me your newest version of your proposal and I will zap it back via email with suggestions and we can have personal discussions via phone. You can call me to give me your most current pitch and discuss your personal fears and talk about what you need to do to raise the money and make your special film. The second edition of The Art of Film Funding book has great ideas and you can read that before, (I will mail to you once you join) and during the 6 weeks of the class so we can discuss ideas in the book and work on new things in class. I will focus on, how to pitch in front of people without freezing, how to ask for discounts and donations and get them, how to contact your potential funders and what to say to make that special connection. You know the myriad of things needed to fund your film, well; we will cover as many as possible during this course. Most of all you will be in a comfortable place to relax and make some mistakes and learn from each other. This course includes both books, the Funding and the Manifesting. I want to work on both sides of your brain. We can't make things happen (manifest) if we don't have a "to do" list and work on it each day. But, our vision of the film and our long term personal vision must be in sync. Once we have these defined then we can begin creating our future, have fun and make that film. This is a working class, you will have things to write and read between classes and together we will see your film move from ideas to concrete concepts and written materials that reach in and touch hearts, which I believe is the essence of funding. I only want totally dedicated filmmakers who are ready to fund films. If any of these dates conflict with previous plans, I can work with you personally to cover things you miss in one class.
