         Workshop Feedback
Feedback from the October 25-26, 2003 Film Financing Workshop in New York City

These are the first 4 feedback forms that we received.

What were your expectations for this seminar, and were they met?: The workshop far exceded my expectations because I really didn't have anything but comic, vague--almost cynical?--notions about its content. I've been thanking my wife for two days for dragging me up there to attend. It created an atmosphere in which constructive failure is in fact encouraged. It also created an environment in which "learning" could take place.

What did you specifically like and/or dislike about the seminar, and why?: I liked Carole's "faith" in her students to discover that which is after all already inside them and to "bring it out." I don't know whether Carole "taught" me anything, I only know I "learned."

Was the information easy to understand? If no, why not?: No;. It was really hard. It would have all been easy had I stayed home. Now, I have a better idea of what I want to do with this film and that's hard. Hard is good.

What were your expectations for this seminar, and were they met?: My expectations were exceeded 100 fold! I intended to write Carole a thank you letter for getting all that talent together in one room, but I will just go ahead and tell her here. I learned so much about the possibilities out there for documentary airtime, that extend far beyond Public Television. Carole is a master at making people feel they can do anything if they just try. And Carole, I heard in the audience that although everyone liked the speakers, they also would have liked to have more of you personally, speaking about the industry and what it takes. You were truly an inspiration to everyone there. Above that, I want to thank you so much for the networking opportunity. Documentary filmmaking can be isolating and it's easy to feel alone and overwhelmed during the process. The synergy in that room was evidenced by the workshop participants talking constantly during breaks, coming back late from lunch as they shared information and the continuo! us exchange of business cards throughout the two days. It was an extraordinary experience. I feel priviledged to get a peak at some of the works in progress that we saw, because they will certainly appear soon on public television or cable. It was also amazing to see Carole always willing to talk and discuss and help each and every producer who approached her. I had a wonderful time. Thank you very much!

What did you specifically like and/or dislike about the seminar, and why?: Barbara Trent was spellbinding. She was an amazing speaker and role model. I could have listened to her talk for 4 more hours.

Was the information easy to understand? If no, why not?: Yes, the information was delivered in an easy to use format. That is certainly a difficult task because of the diversity of experience in the room and the various levels of progress on their projects.

What were your expectations for this seminar, and were they met?: The seminar was definitely more than I expected. Ms. Carole Dean is such a sweetheart and I'd like to thank you Tory for helping me become a part of such an informative and enlightening workshop. Not only did I leave with information, my spirit was refreshed by Ms. Dean. God bless you both and I'll see you at the top!

What did you specifically like and/or dislike about the seminar, and why?: I liked the atmosphere. It was very close and personal. It was very one to one and there were many answers to many questions answered. I also met a lot of wonderful, talented people.

Was the information easy to understand? If no, why not?: The information was very easy to understand and the audience participation was very helpful.

What were your expectations for this seminar, and were they met?: My expectations were to get all the information available regarding grants. I got lots of information to work with and now the real work starts for me, so I can't tell you if I got what I needed yet, but I feel like I got good leads to start with, and possibly much more.

What did you specifically like and/or dislike about the seminar, and why?: Liked the people. Disliked the location. too dark and too loud.

Was the information easy to understand? If no, why not?: The information was well explained. And if you didn't understand you could ask again and again until you did, which was great.
