Filmmaking requires many skills, writing, directing, producing, knowledge of legal facts, computer skills and in fact, a Harvard professor says you are entrepreneurs and I fully agree. Most filmmakers are highly creative and when they come to the funding part they freeze, asking people for money can sometimes end their promising careers. It’s all in your belief system. It’s like Henry Ford said, “If you believe you can or if you believe you can’t, you’re right!”
I know how hard it is to make an “ask,” I do it all the time raising funds for my non profit organization, From the Heart Productions, and when I call Companies to raise goods and services for my grants. There are some tricks to the trade; some things you really need to know and practice that make it a lot easier. Plus I think your mind set and your foundation for funding your film are the most important elements in funding. These are the things we work on in my seminars.
There is a lot of information to cover in a one day seminar and the only way I like to teach these seminars is if you commit to a free conference call 30 days later and, another one 60 days later. This way we stay in touch, you have a chance to use the new materials and someone to talk to when they don’t work for you.
Funding is not a tested scientific science; fund raising is more like quantum physics. Things keep changing all the time so the only constant is change. Your proposal will change as you get closer to your film, your pitch changes because you pay attention to what works and your trailer may change two or three times. These are good signs, you are not alone, this happens to many filmmakers.

Comments from other students:
Quote: To move your career forward requires large and frequent leaps outside your comfort zone. There is no safer place to launch these leaps than as part of the team of professionals Carole assembles. Her energy, her spirit, her optimism sustain the soul of art. --Rodney Vance, Writer/Producer
Thank you so much for allowing me to participate in your group. Just one meeting has sent me in a new direction with strength and passion. My planning stages have evolved and my projects are growing. The joy of manifesting is truly the payoff. Sheryl Dolley
The Trailblazers Class is fantastic! It was both uplifting to be in a group of like-minded filmmakers and life-changing to be guided by Carole Dean. This class is for anyone needing a mental cleansing and positive push towards excellence.
--Alison Wolf
"Carole Dean's Trailblazer class was literally an answer to prayer. Carole's experience in the industry, teaching ability, hospitality, and heart for the independent filmmaker provided the additional encouragement and motivation I needed to continue moving forward with my next feature film."
